The Borough is considering the use of crowdfunding to provide all or part of the funding for projects that will enhance our community's amenities. If the Borough were to launch a crowdfunding campaign, to which of the projects would you be likely to donate? Rank from most likely to least likely.
Across the country, communities are facing challenges with providing services and other amenities as resources are dwindling and demand for community improvements are increasing. State College Borough is no exception. Each year, Borough Council and staff must make tough decisions about what projects are funded using the Borough's limited tax dollars. Often times, this means that maintenance of infrastructure and the provision of basic services must take precedent over new features that residents would like to see in the community.
One way to address this is to find creative funding sources to help the Borough continue to provide improvements that make our community more livable. In the past, these sources have included partnerships and grants. This year, the Borough would like to expand this to crowdfunding.
Crowdfunding generates money for projects through voluntary donations rather than tax dollars. This means that a project is only funded and implemented if enough donations are received by people who care about the project. Crowdfunding has become a tool that is used by municipalities, community groups and organizations focused on making our communities great places to live. Crowdfunding has been successful in many communities, including fellow Pennsylvania communities, Philadelphia and Carlisle.
Join us as we pilot this unique funding opportunity for projects in our community, by letting us know what types of projects you would be willing to donate to through a crowdfunding campaign!
