Better sidewalks/more sidewalks, Additional bus service

What kinds of businesses are missing in the area that you would like to see?

Other - There is everything I need within walking distance.

How can the city better support existing businesses and/or employees in the South Slope?
Better sidewalks, drainage for streets. Oversight of growth that will keep the neighborhood's character (anticipating increased rents that will drive out small businesses).

What types of infrastructure do we need most in the South Slope to facilitate growth and sustainability?
Stormwater improvements/Green infrastructure, Undergrounding power lines, Sidewalks, Other, Bike lanes, Public Parking

What types of social infrastructure do we need most in the South Slope to facilitate growth and sustainability?
Affordable/Workforce housing, More living wage jobs , Streetscape Design, Public spaces/green spaces , Sidewalk Dining

When are you most likely come to or visit the South Slope?
All the time/I live in the neighborhood

During your visit do you feel safe in the South Slope?
Yes

Do you have any specific safety concerns in the South Slope?
Drunken driving, especially on Coxe Avenue. Pedestrian safety where sidewalks do not exist or are broken.

What do we need to do to promote safety in the South Slope?
The presence of more police foot patrols. New housing will also increase pedestrian traffic, which will help. More lighting for Aston Park.

What kinds of development would you like to see in the South Slope?
Mixed use

For new buildings, what matters the most?

Height

What is unique and special about the South Slope? How do we preserve or enhance that?
To me, the South Slope feels urban and suburban at the same time -- single family homes (most often used for offices or social services) and small business buildings still define the "look" of the neighborhood. Small apartment buildings like The Aston and the new one on Coxe and Banks are incubators for creating community within the community. My fear is that large buildings or big box stores will anesthetize its inhabitants and/or attract investors who do not care about the welfare of the community. It is also a place where you can still see the sky and the mountains and that is a big attraction to this City which is fast disappearing.

What kinds of businesses are missing in the area that you would like to see?

Other - All of the above and also a drug store.

Teach business owners how to exist in a residential neighborhood. For example, why do some of the breweries insist on using blowers in the mornings, polluting the air and creating noise, when a simple broom would do the job. The businesses need to learn how to be good neighbors and the city could take the lead on this.

How do we ensure that everyone feels welcome in the South Slope?

Most locals would indicate that the area has become too saturated with tourists and has become uncomfortable/crowded for locals. It's a double edged sword as the economic benefits come with overcrowding and a "non-local" atmosphere.

What is unique and special about the South Slope? How do we preserve or enhance that?
The amount of fun businesses in within close proximity, easy walk-ability. Residents and visitors all desire to park their car and not have to get back in it all day (or all weekend even). Ensuring that everyone is comfortable walking and that all necessary businesses/residences are within walking distance is key.

I made it through this whole survey without explicitly saying "beer", impressed?

What is unique and special about the South Slope? How do we preserve or enhance that?
two things, the black history and the automobile history. a city under utilized space can be used to promote the concepts with local businesses and residents. much like the Art Museum uses larger than life size blow ups of proposed remodel. we can successfully acknowledge the Lee Walker Heights History also. i suggest automobile murals on the Coxe ave buildings like 207-217. ive suggested this to the owner but we have not met on it yet.
