Where should new COGO bike stations go in Upper Arlington?
The City of Upper Arlington has an opportunity to expand the COGO bikesharing system, a popular amenity currently offered throughout parts of Columbus, into our community. The Community Development Department is currently in discussions with the cities of Columbus, Bexley and Grandview Heights regarding a collaboration opportunity and will bring a contract before City Council for consideration in late August. Read the Staff Report presented to City Council in early June here.
To cover the cost of the station installations, the group would apply for a grant from the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) that would cover 80% of the cost. Columbus currently has 41 stations and the grant would expand this figure to 57 regionally, five of which could be in Upper Arlington. Additionally, if the expansion moves forward, sponsorship opportunities would be made available to local businesses, potentially decreasing costs further.
Staff is seeking public feedback as to where these potential bikeshare stations should be located. View a map of current and proposed stations. Keep in mind that these locations can be no longer than a 30 minute bike ride apart (less than 2 miles is suggested). View an example station plan. Initially identified locations include:
- Northam Park
- The Mallway
- Upper Arlington High School
- The Shops on Lane Avenue
Note that outside of Upper Arlington, Columbus is proposing a station at the Lane Avenue bridge near the OSU campus and Grandview Heights is proposing a station along the Grandview Avenue corridor.
