What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Commerce?
With the continued loss of major sporting in the Tucson area, Marana has an opportunity to become a leader in this area. You will be lossing the Match Play and with that once again there is no professional sporting activity in the Tucson Metro area, we can't live off of the U of A, they get money from us. Marana should look to place itself on the map to develop two major sporting venues to attact the four current major league baseball teams who's current facilities are subpar and may be willing to look at new spring training facilities. the A's, Angels, the Brewers and the Astros (in Florida) are all teams that based on budgets would be attactable to this area. If you combine this with a multipurpose area of hotels, shopping, restuarants, arts and even a waterpark or other such facility, you would have a year round destination for the people of the community and surrounding areas. These would be large complexes, but your advantage like other outlying communcities in the Pheonix area is flat open land ready for developement close to the interstate and water. It would even encourage the developement of your airport facilities, new outlet malls and is close enough to Pheonix to not be a travel issue for teams or other travelers. This might even encourage the relocation of a minor League franchise to this area. Connecting the communcities of Gladden Farms, Red Rock and Oro Valley will be crucial to future development and increasing your tax base, all pluses when you consider that it would be a boost to your development of the Central Marana complex area around your government facilities.

Embrace your Military Communcity more and help them grow in size in this area especially aviation.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Innovation?
Attract the areospace industry here for testing.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Heritage?
Capitalize on the rich history of the American Southwest with a top notch museum dedicated to that ideal of Go West Young Man.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Recreation?
Your plan is solid. Too much golf already.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Commerce?
Offshoring or nearshoring are now concepts that are growing out of popularity. We should focus our efforts in attracting manufacturers that had previously moved their business out of the country and make it a good business investment for them to return. Showcase proximity to the I-10 corridor, housing inventory, educated workforce and partnerships with local schools (Pima College, UofA) to train future workforce. Become involved, if not already, with the Pima County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and get an inside on the services and resources available in the region.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Community?
Marana as a Town is separated into different community populations, I don't see much interaction or connection between Gladden Farms, Continental Ranch, San Lucas and the more rural communities. It is almost as if they are mutually exclusive. It would be nice to have farmers markets on set days to pull people together. The movies in the park focus too much on activities for families with small kids. Maybe plan on activities that tie into the Rodeo and Gem show. Ways in which we can bring community together and keep them here instead of having to go into Tucson.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Innovation?
It is exciting that we are getting a new mall, planned development (not overdevelopment) is important to our progress. Look for ways in which we can be leaders in developing policy at both the local and national level on issues that are relevant (ie. immigration reform, globalization of business, improving quality education, improving child welfare, building health communities, improving transportation options (high speed rail between Phoenix, Marana, Casa Grande, Tucson, Nogales), satellite campuses for the UofA/NAU and ASU in Marana, etc.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Commerce?
Restrict commerce in the Twin Peaks corridor to only be near I10.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Community?
The Twin Peaks Corridor is a beautiful part of the Sonoran desert and Ironwood forest. Maranas current plan for developing the corridor seems to be the developers plan of clusters of homes on 6,000 square foot lots creating a wall of houses up and down the corridor. Maranas part of the plan is to cover these walls of houses up with vegetation. Needing to try to cover them up says something about the desirability of these clusters.

The initial planned clusters of houses are near existing communities with custom homes on 1 acre or more. Oasis Hills is the first example being implemented. We can all see how this destroys the beauty of the corridor and does not fit in with the existing community. Maranas strategic plan should respect both the natural beauty of the corridor and the existing communities.

How about a new plan we can all be proud of. A plan that would not allow walls of houses near Twin Peaks road or near existing communities with custom homes on 1 acre or more. Looking at maps of the area, it looks to me like this would be a small percentage of the total development in the Twin Peaks corridor. The financial benefit to Marana would not be significantly impacted, in fact, since the corridor would be more attractive, it probably would be a financial benefit to Marana.

Don't allow corporate business to dictate the development along Twin Peaks Corridor. To allow business along this Corridor will destroy the natural beauty that brings people to the area. Please have a longer view of what is ahead.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Community?
Careful planning is needed for developing the Twin Peaks Corridor. The current plan to change the zoning from R36 and Suburban Ranch puts the desires of corporate builders over the desires of existing residents. Plastering this beautiful area with subdivisions of six-thousand square foot lots is short sighted. Look at the development on Silverbell from Cortaro to Coachline--that's not the look we want along the Corridor. Imagine this look, but worse because it's going to be filled with houses similar to Oasis Hills. There's no place for horses, chickens, pigs, bobcats, etc. on the stretch of Silverbell. There won't be room for those critters along the Corridor if rezoning takes place.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Commerce?
Careful Planing in conjunction with surrounding property owners. It should be placed along I 10

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Community?
Leave the zoning of R-36 in place in the Twin Peaks Corridor, the gateway yo Dove Mountain. High density zoning changes are an affront to the existing property owners. Listen to those who invested in their homes already and not developers who stand to make millions off the back of the already settled property owners.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Innovation?
DO not plan to be another Oro Valley or Phoenix, Plan a well planed community of low density, We have a grandiose town building, state of the art huge police department, parks, good fire departments, so what is the need to rake in huge new taxes.?????? why the need to pile roofs in the pristine Sonora desert?? Innovate by not making all the mistakes of thinking we need to develop everything in sight...

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Heritage?
I like the idea of Heritage Park.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Commerce?
Marana, like all communities, needs to bring in industry, to add to the tax base and to create higher paying jobs.

Related to commerce, Marana should cost justify the plans for the horse arena. I haven't seen solid evidence of the benefit.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Community?
Marana offers several programs through the Community Center, but I am not certain the programs are well communicated,

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Innovation?
Marana needs to attract high tech, environmentally clean corporations. Marana either needs to provide a Pima Community College extension or provide its own Community College alternative.

What tasks should the Town include in its' Action Plan for Recreation?
The development of Hertiage Park is a big step forward. The hiking and biking paths in "northern" Marana need to be link into the Tucson LOOP, along the Santa Cruz.
