How should marijuana be regulated in Sausalito?
The State of California will begin issuing commercial licenses for recreational marijuana after January 1, 2018, but will not issue licenses in jurisdictions that have adopted ordinances prohibiting these uses. A 45-day Urgency Ordinance is currently in effect in Sausalito that bans commercial sale of marijuana, outdoor cultivation of marijuana plants, and delivery of recreational marijuana, among other things. Delivery of medical marijuana is allowed.
The Sausalito City Council has directed City staff to seek the community's input on Sausalito's marijuana regulations. This input will inform the Council's future decisions on the regulation of marijuana. If the Council needs additional time, the Urgency Ordinance can be extended once for 10 months and 15 days and again for one year.
