What do you think about the proposed parking fees for the new downtown parking garage on Santa Clara and Mare Island Way?
The City has almost completed construction of the new Vallejo Station Parking Structure to serve the Ferry Terminal, the Vallejo Transit Center, and the downtown/waterfront area. This new structure is intended to replace parking that will be lost as the waterfront properties are developed where the surface parking lots are currently located. When the garage is opened, the City of Vallejo will implement a new parking strategy which will include paid parking for all day parking which will be allowed in the garage and in designated adjacent surface lots. A number of surface lots will continue to have parking restrictions for specific users (employee, for example) or time restrictions (for library users or shoppers.)
How much will it cost? (to park and to operate…)
On May 31, the City hosted the third workshop to the community discussing the project and the parking fees and fee collection system. The consultant’s PowerPoint presentation is available here (3.2MB PDF file). Staff presented their recommendations at the workshop of parking fees of $20 for a monthly parking pass, or $5 per day without a monthly pass. Recommendations for implementation of parking fees and other required approvals will be considered by Vallejo City Council later this summer.
The consultant’s assumptions and calculations used to calculate the revenues generated from the fees are available here.
Although the construction of the structure was paid for by grants, the operations are not. The pie chart below shows the breakdown of the forecasted operational and maintenance costs. The City will review both the actual operations and maintenance costs and the revenues collected from parking fees after the first year to evaluate the accuracy of the cost projections and recommend any adjustments necessary at that time to the Council.
Your input will be received by staff and the City Council, and will be available to the public on this website.

City of Vallejo City Council, at their meeting of October 23, 2012, considered the proposed parking fees for the Vallejo Station Parking Structure and ferry parking lots of $5.00 for daily parking, $20.00 for a monthly commuter pass and $4.00 for extended hours/overnight parking for commuter pass holders.
City Engineer Jill Mercurio provided a presentation outlining the proposed new parking fees. Staff responded to questions from the speakers and Councilmembers on issues including security, methods of payment, and parking fees for the surface lots and streets outside of the parking structure.
Councilmembers provided comment, and Resolution No. 12-149 with the fees stated above was adopted unanimously by the City Council. The parking fees will become effective on March 1, 2013.
