Motor vehicles are responsible for two-thirds of Palo Alto’s “carbon footprint” and are often used inefficiently to carry only one person. Palo Alto is pursuing an aggressive program of bicycle boulevard improvements and other facilities to encourage walking and biking. At the same time, the City is studying the expansion of its shuttle program, launching efforts to expand the use of transit, promote innovative mobility options like ridesharing and on-demand services and explore other ways to reduce the use of single occupant vehicles.
