In April 2007 the 49ers proposed that the City create a Stadium Authority that would build, own and operate the stadium and schedule all non-NFL events at it. The 49ers would lease the stadium for their home games.

The San Francisco 49ers football team would like to move their home games to a stadium built in the City of Santa Clara on part of the parking lot of Great America theme park, at 5000 Great America Parkway, just south of Tasman Blvd. This is property owned by the City of Santa Clara.
