The intersection at Oxford and Virginia is dangerous. Traffic in both directions along Oxford tends to speed through the intersection, making it hazardous for pedestrians to cross Oxford. Because the intersection is at the crest of a small hill, visibility is restricted. This makes the intersection especially dangerous.
The City of Berkeley has installed bright reflective flexible posts in the center of certain cross walks; these posts support signage which warn drivers that they are entering a crosswalk and that pedestrians have right of way.
This issue asks whether the City should install a similar traffic calming device in the crosswalks on Oxford at Virginia.

Councilmember, District 6

I was elected to office to represent the residents in District 6. That is my job. Kitchen Democracy provides me with an exciting new tool for hearing from my constituents about how they feel about matters pertaining to our district.
Please tell me how you feel about installing a traffic calming device on Oxford at Virginia. Though the final decision on this matter is made by the transportation department, I would be pleased to relay your opinions to that department, and do what I can to support the neighborhood decision.
The more involvement and communication we have, the better!
