After conducting a traffic survey of the subject area, it was determined that the speed profile for this stretch of Addison was actually lower than other comparable city streets in Berkeley. With this information, I have come to the conclusion that there is not a need for additional traffic calming measures along this stretch of Addison.

A traffic survey was completed on Addison in the subject area, measuring both volumes and speeds. For the westbound direction, the 24 hour average weekday volume of motor vehicles is approx 1,400, and the average speed is approx 22 mph. The 85th%ile speed was measured at 27.3 mph.
For the eastbound volume, there were only approx 800 vehicles, with a similar average speed (21.7 mph). The 85th%ile speed is approx 27 mph, very similar to the westbound direction.
The 85th%ile is the speed that 85% of the traffic is traveling at or below. It is a very common tool for monitoring and comparing traffic operations, and setting design speeds.
This type of traffic speed profile is actually lower than the speed profile we often find on similar types of city streets in Berkeley. Therefore, the Office of Transportation would not be seeking corrective action.
